A 14-year-old honor student from Northridge, Los Angeles, died this week after inhaling computer keyboard cleaner, a growing trend among students as young as eighth grade.
“I’m positive my daughter didn’t realize it had the potential to kill her,” Carolyn Doherty said.
Aria Doherty, a straight-A student at Nobel Middle School, died Monday. She’d been home alone for a couple of hours when she inhaled the duster.
Her parents believe it was her first time huffing — also known as bagging or dusting.
Her older sister found Aria in bed with a can of compressed air still attached to her mouth, her nostrils taped shut. A plastic bag was found nearby.

MORNINGSIDE RECOVERY – Rehab

Morningside Recovery is an all- mental health recovery center located in beautiful Newport Beach, California.

They have a dedicated, qualified staff.  They just want to help people. They provide a tranquil, serene atmosphere.   And they believe everyone deserves to have a full recovery.

They work with people that are addicted to many things.   can often be linked to mental health disorders, such as ADD, ADHD, PTSD and more.

There are more people addicted to prescription now than ever before.  Morningside has the tools and staff to help people with this and other addictions.

is just one addiction people need help with.  It’s eating a large amount of food in a short period of time.  It’s just the beginning of long term self-abuse.  It triggers the same reward system in the brain known to cause addictive behavior.  And it’s become just a big a problem as drug abuse.  They have experienced, educated counselors to help with body image and teach you how to have a balanced, nutritional diet.

And then there’s marijuana abuse.  It has long term effects on memory and learning abilities. It’s been known to be the gateway-drug for a long time.  Abusing THC can produce acute psychotic reactions, anxiety, schizophrenia, and genetic disorders.

Then there’s Bath Salts and other Designer Drugs.  They’re so dangerous, due to the ingredients used, are extremely poisonous.  Bath salts is one of the worst, most dangerous designer drugs around right now.  Recently it was in the news, a man named  Rudy Eugene tried to ingest the face of a poor homeless victim!  How horrible is that?  These drugs can be made with household items, so they’re easy to get.  Using designer drugs even one, single time can cause severe distress, uncontrollable violence and even death.

Bath Salts have hallucinogenic properties, a lot like LSD.  They can cause psychotic episodes, convulsions, and extreme paranoia.  Doesn’t sound like fun to me!  People experience feelings of intense energy, violence and invincibility.  These terrifying effects are like using methamphetamine and PCP.  They can also cause very high body temperatures, which can cause brain damage and even death.

The latest addiction happening now, is Facebook addiction.  People that have this can become extremely depressed and disappointed when nobody contacts them.  They can become anxious and irritable.  This can make people withdraw from their real life and effect their relationships with family and friends.

Symptoms of Facebook abuse can be found by asking yourself a few simple questions:

When you’re not on Facebook, do you spend time thinking about it or planning when you will you use it?

Do you feel an uncontrollable urge to use Facebook?

Do you escape personal problems by using Facebook?

Have you tried to cut down your use of Facebook to no avail?

If you are away from Facebook long, do you get anxious or restless?

Has the overuse of Facebook had a negative impact on your work/education?

Answering yes to these questions, can mean you are addicted.  It’s a lot like video game addiction, where you feel the need to withdraw from real life.

All addictions are symptoms of deeper emotional and mental issues.  At Morningside Recovery, they work with you to get you through the addiction and find out the root of the problem.  And help you to learn how to stay clean, be social, active, and happy again.

If you or a loved one has an addiction, you should contact Morningside Recovery.  You can call them 24 hours a day at 866-387-2173.  They’re there to help!

WHAT ARE STIMULANT ?

Discovered by a Japanese scientist, stimulants are generally used as a treatment for obesity, narcolepsy (sleeping sickness),  and Attention Deficit Disorder.

One of the most powerful stimulants is meth-amphetamine, which is produced in clandestine labs.  Drug can happen to first-time-users.   Cocaine is one of the most popular recreationally abused stimulant drugs.

Stimulant drugs cause an intense feeling of exhilaration or “rush” along with increased energy and psychological confidence. So people with low self-esteem can quickly become addicted.

Drug abuse leads to addiction, paranoia, and hallucinations.  The most recent research shows that just under 34 million Americans have used cocaine, making it one of the most popular illegal, addicting drugs.  By comparison, only 12 million people (more popular in rural areas) abuse the much less expensive meth-amphetamine.  Last year an estimated 300 metric tons of cocaine was consumed by Americans.

Stimulant drugs include:

  • Amphetamines—Dexadrine, Fastin, and Ionamin, Sanorex, Tenuate, are all prescription medicines
  • Meth-amphetamines—illegal world-wide but still illegally produced, it is 10 times more potent than amphetamines and can be manufactured in small home-made labs.
  • Cocaine—a powerful illegal stimulant drug produced from the coca leaf, one of the most abused illegal drugs in America.
  • Ritalin—(methylphenidate), often referred to as “R-Balling” the abuse of drugs used in treating attention deficit syndrome is a growing problem in America.
