Email a copy of incoming and outgoing messages to the parent
As Christa said, I like the ability to monitor emails just for the reasons she laid out. That had to be so scary…such a violation of what is supposed to be your safe place.
Love that mails parent a copy of all emails!
Email a copy of incoming and outgoing messages to the parent
My fave feature is the ability to approve or deny emails. That’s a nice feature to have when trying to keep my young teens safe on the internet. It’s amazing some of the “stupid” (aka dangerous) situations kids can get in to when accessing the internet. My 13yr old daughter recently proved that when I received a phone call from a foreign man trying to contact her. Turns out she had opened a fb account (defying our specific rules) and accessed it from her Nook e-reader (I had no idea she could access the internet from it!) She went so far as to block my fb profile in an attempt to hide her defiance. She was contacted through fb by a man from Nygeria who insisted that she should be his girlfriend and then went on to ask her for money to get a passport. To top it off, she gave him our home phone number and when he wouldn’t leave her alone, she tried to “handle” the situation herself. This continued for over a yr before I finally discovered something wasn’t right (when I answered his call). My daughter has always been very trustworthy with a very mature & level head on her shoulders. To my knowledge, she had never directly lied to me before this incident. I was absolutely shocked when I discovered what was going on. I have always stressed the importance of being careful on the internet and I utilize every possible tool I can to ensure their internet activities are monitored & restricted to school or other approved projects. So having been a big advocate for childrens’ internet safety, I am a near fanatic about it now! If my daughter was able to put herself in such a dangerous position without any thought, then I know that just about any child is at risk. She is the last person I imagined would be so thoughtless. If anyone were going to get themselves into something like this, I always thought it would be one of my boys before it would be my daughter. She’s just too smart to do this. But I was insanely wrong. Just goes to show….
I know what you mean! Kids just don’t understand what can happen! Thank you for this great comment!
