15 Questions To Ask Your Doctor
World Health Day was April 7th, so here are the best questions to ask your doctor about new medicines.
About 700,000 emergency visits come from incorrect medication use each year!
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to any medicine, you should tell your doctor.
These are the best questions to ask your doctor when starting new medicines. The more you know about it, the better.
Questions To Ask Your Doctor:
How many do I take and how often?
How long do I need to take this?
What are the side effects?
Are there any FDA warnings or recalls on this?
How long will it take to work?
How should it be stored, in the refrigerator?
Is it ok to take my vitamins with this?
Is this drug intended to cure my underlying condition or is it intended to give me relief from my symptoms?
How will I feel taking this?
Will this interact ok with my current meds?
Should I eat before or after taking it?
Is there certain food or drink I should not have?
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding? (If appropriate to you.)
What should I do if I miss a dose?
Is there a generic version of the medication?
Pay attention to some things, once you start taking it, like how you feel, write down any side effects you have and check back with your doctor.
If you’d like to be cautious, you can sign up to receive recall and safety alerts for any drug and medical devices you are prescribed. The American Recall Center is devoted to keeping you informed about such information. Their patient safety alerts tool is a great resource.
If he wants you to have a lab test, be sure and get it done. That way he will know if anything is being effected that shouldn’t be.
Keep all your follow-up appointments and do not stop taking it, without asking your doctor.
I hope these help you out when you get new meds! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment. Thank you for stopping by!

Thanks for posting this. These are very good questions. The problem for me is tying down my doctor long enough to get my questions answered.
Hi Rita,
I know what you mean! Mine’s the same way. I just keep talking, even if she’s walking out. I don’t like it at all.

I have two autoimmune diseases so I take a lot of medicine. I see several doctors. Some of these I knew to ask, others I have not considered. Thanks for sharing this important information.
Thanks Jody for bringing these good informative questions to Fridays Blog Booster Party. You have shown us the importance of knowing what we are consuming in the way of medication. I find another source of help is the Pharmacist who often knows even more than the doctor.
