National Puppy Day is Friday, March 21!
National Puppy Day is a day to celebrate all our puppies and the unconditional love that comes with them!

This day was founded by Pet Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige, a tireless advocate for the rights and well-being of dogs and other animals.
This is a day to save orphaned puppies around the world. And educate everyone about the horrors of puppy mills, and to further the mission for puppy-free stores. There are approximately 8,000-10,000 puppy mills in the U.S. and this would include many businesses that call themselves breeders, such as “backyard breeders”. Those people purposely allow their dogs to get pregnant in hopes of selling puppies through their local paper or online.
Pet stores are the #1 reason puppy mills exist. The stores buy from them, therefore they keep going. People running puppy mills don’t care about the dogs. They just treat them as a commodity. The cages are too small and they don’t get health care. They take the puppies away too soon so they lack the social skills to behave well and then more end up in shelters.
Puppy mills and backyard breeders are the number one reason for the over-population of dogs, that and people not spaying and neutering. Responsible breeders only have a limited number of litters a year. They care for the animals and keep them healthy and happy. If you want to buy a pure breed from a breeder, just do your homework and make sure they are licensed by the city and state. Make sure they have a good reputation and no complaints to the BBB. Also make sure there are no law suits against them and they should have good reviews from customers. You can make sure they have a health certificate from a reputable vet and that the dogs look healthy.
When you go to visit, always check that there’s no bad odor or unhealthy looking conditions in the kennel. They should be fine with letting you see the parents of the puppy you’re interested in. Puppies with weepy eyes or lethargy of course, aren’t good. The puppy should show interest with connecting with you. If any of the puppies are skinny or limping, that’s a very bad sign.
There are many pure breed rescues where you can get puppies and young adults. This is a much better way to go. You’re saving a life and gaining a loving furbaby! National Puppy Day is for adopting! If you keep looking, you Will find a puppy you love!
Now have a look at some adorable puppies!
In this next one, I think this kitty really loves this puppy!
The story on this one is just amazing! I wish more people could do this!
This puppy got saved by a wonderful person!
As you can see, so many puppies and dogs need to be rescued. Adopting should be the only way to go. If you’re looking for a pure breed, just do a search on the breed and “rescue”. Or check with your local shelter first. Rescued dogs are so grateful. (I have two).
Thank you for stopping by! I really appreciate you! If you rescue a pet, I’d love to hear about it! Leave me a comment if you have a rescue or any questions. There’s more about National Puppy Day if you’d like to read it.

Always ADOPT, don’t shop! Consider adopting an older dog, too. Puppies are great, but older dogs need forever homes, too. All five of my Treeing Walker Coonhounds are rescues, and three of them were at least 2 years old when I adopted them. Of the other two, one was estimated to be two, but ended up being about 9-10 months, and my deaf girl was just short of her four month birthday.
Linda,
Thank you for your comment. I love that saying Always ADOPT, Don’t shop! I’m going to use that! That’s great you have 3 adopted dogs. I agree, older dogs need more attention I’m sure. I’ll work on that, in fact.
