I Thought We Were Going To Get Blown Away last night!

Two tornadoes did touch down across Metro Atlanta!

We were watching the weather and they kept saying a bad thunderstorm was coming all day!  Finally about 7:00 P.M. it started getting dark out.  They were predicting 70 – 80 mph winds and large hail.  Ya know, they say that all the time, so you don’t really think much about it anymore.  We were just sitting in the living room, talking about the weathermen.  Someone said, “we’ll probably get two drops of rain”.  And I said “yep, that’s usually what happens”.

Well it did storm here but we got lucky! It wasn’t bad.  Some areas around us got hit pretty hard!  There are lots of huge trees down and some houses damaged.  I don’t think anyone got hurt so that’s awesome!

The sky looked so eerie! I thought maybe we really were going to get a this time!  Unfortunately, some places around us, did.  A few people lost their houses, some just had damage and some cars were hit by trees.  Plus a lot of people don’t have power.  And that’s always painful!

There were multiple reports of downed trees throughout north Georgia.  The National Weather Service forecasters say falling trees left two people with non-life threatening injuries in Canton.

Georgia Power officials say a system of severe thunderstorms has left about 65,000 customers without power.

This is the tornado that hit Dunwoody, GA!  This is not very far from us at all!  We really got lucky last night!  I’m glad I didn’t hear the sirens go off!

A doctor has recorded the moment he delivered a baby inside an intact amniotic sac.

Obstetrician Dr Aris Tsigris published the photo of the newborn on his Facebook page after delivering the baby via caesarean section in Amarousion, north of Athens.

Because the sac had not been punctured, Dr Tsigris said the baby did not even realize it had been born and behaved as if it was still inside the mother’s womb.

The fluid helps to cushion the baby from bumps and injury, as well as providing them with fluids that they can breathe and swallow. The fluid also maintains a constant temperature for the baby.

The amniotic sac starts to form and fill with fluid within days of a woman conceiving.

Amniotic fluid is mainly water but from about week 10 on-wards, the baby passes small amounts of urine into the fluid.

The amount of amniotic fluid increases gradually during pregnancy until about week 38, when it reduces slightly until the baby is born.

Typically the amniotic sac breaks on its own during birth, which is commonly referred to as a mother’s ‘water breaking’.

Dr Tsigris that the chance of the amniotic sac remaining completely intact after birth was ‘ultra rare’ and he was left ‘breathless’ by the sight of the newborn born on March 12, according to a report by Nine News.

The doctor said there was no risk to the baby as it was still feeding off the placenta and would begin to breathe as soon as the sac was broken.

The photo has since been shared more than 8000 times.

Actress Jessica Alba has spoken out about her daughter Haven who was born inside the amniotic sac in 2011.

She said at the time: ‘The doctor had never seen anything like it before. He grabbed the nurse and said: “Look at this!”.

‘I was in the middle of pushing and he told me to hold on a minute and not to push.

‘He was wearing basketball shorts and a T-shirt and said: ‘Oh I have to get my scrubs on for this!’ The sac burst on its own after she came out. It was a trip.’

In fact Jessica’s experience inspired Haven’s name.

She explained: ‘When I was in recovery we still hadn’t chosen her name. [Her father Cash Warren] picked her up and said she came into the world in her ‘safe haven’ and [her name] clicked right then for both of us.’

Police Are Looking For These Boys With Handgun

People need to lock their guns up! The one boy looks about 10 or so! And then when the older one gets the gun, he points it toward the other boys walking down the street. I bet they were scared half to death!

Police are looking for boys with a handgun, caught on camera.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a group of kids who pointed a semi-automatic handgun at one girl and later assaulted an adult.

Wearing a backpack, red T-shirt and shorts, a young boy was captured on surveillance trotting up to a group of girls walking in the Tioga section of Philadelphia around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The boy, believed to be between 10 and 12-years-old, pulls the handgun out of his pants and points it at one of the girls. The young woman can be seen putting her hands in the air as she slowly walks across the street. Moments later, an older boy comes up to the child with a backpack and takes the gun away.

That boy then walks down Ontario Street, drops to one knee and points the gun in the direction of a group of kids walking towards him. He then jumps up and runs towards the group brandishing the weapon.

“He obviously has some kind of handgun. A toy, maybe, doesn’t look like a toy,” Philadelphia Police Lt. George McClay said. “The other guy is following the boy closely to make sure he gets that gun back, so I would never presume that it’s a toy gun.”

Twenty minutes later, police say the same boys approached a 27-year-old man. Police say one of the boys then reached into his backpack, pulled out the handgun and said “Hey, buddy.”

The man then ran into a nearby home and called 911 and the youths fled, according to police.

Philadelphia Police say they are searching for three kids involved in the incidents. Their identities are unknown. Police believe the smaller boy is between 10 and 12-years-old and that the two others are between 14 and 16-years-old.

The incidents come two weeks after two Philadelphia teens were shot outside Overbrook High School. Bernard Scott, 17, was killed after being caught in the crossfire during a fight at a playground across from the school.

Two suspects were taken into custody in that case, but charges have yet to be filed.

EXPERIENCE SIMULATED LABOR !

Dutch television hosts Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno have done some pretty wild things for their show “Guinea Pigs”.  (In 2011, they ate each other’s flesh in front of a live audience.) But the duo’s latest escapade had them yelling and clutching their abdomens in agony when they opted to experience simulated labor contractions.

In a clip from the show, Storm and Zeno reveal why they took on this particular challenge, explaining that giving birth is the worst pain there is. However, since men can’t feel , the two men used electro-stimulations to simulate contractions.   so they could experience the distress for themselves.

“Do you think the pain will make us scream,” Zeno asks before the shocks begin.

One of the nurses responds bluntly: “Yes, it definitely will.”

 

She wasn’t lying.

Propped on a bed with electrodes attached to their abdomens, Storm and Zeno last through two hours of the simulated contractions. Though they try to laugh through the strain, the men appear to be in complete misery as they double over and clutch pillows tightly.

While the time span of the simulation was much shorter than many instances of real-life labor, Storm and Zeno appeared to get the full experience. In the end, Zeno sums up the challenge as torture and wonders if he wants his wife to go through the same pain.

The 9 Year Old Girl That Gave Birth Wasn’t 9

The other day I wrote about a 9 year old girl in Mexico that gave birth.

 Well, it turns out she was 12 or 13.

Also, the article said the father was her 17 year old boyfriend.  And after DNA testing it turned out that the father was her 44 year old stepfather!  How unbelievable is that?  Needless to say, he’s in jail.  Thank God!

Here’s the strangest part of the story: it was supposedly the girl’s mother who told doctors that Dafne was only 9! Why in the world would she lie about that? To get attention? Or was she just confused about Dafne’s actual age? After all, she had a lot of children, and wasn’t exactly paying close attention to what Dafne was doing.

Speaking of  her mom … she admitted that she was oblivious to what was going on. ABC states, “Dafne’s mother was unaware of the sexual relationship … she thought the baby’s father was a 17-year-old boy that her daughter had met at a local market. She learned of the pregnancy in November 2012, two months before Dafne delivered a healthy baby girl by C-section Jan. 27, 2013.”

Thankfully, Dafne won’t be getting pregnant again any time soon. Not only is her stepfather now in prison, but doctors inserted a contraceptive implant to ensure that she avoids another pregnancy. Doctor Raymundo Serrano described the implant as a small, flexible rod placed just under the skin in the upper arm that releases progestogen and works for up to three years.

This is a very sad story all around, and unfortunately these reports do not make it any better. Here’s hoping Dafne — and other girls like her — won’t be in the news again any time soon.

9 YEAR OLD GIVES BIRTH!

A LITTLE GIRL GAVE BIRTH TO A DAUGHTER!

We’ve all heard about teenage pregnancies. We’ve even heard awful stories about preteens getting pregnant. But this is truly a new low.

The news world was abuzz  as the story broke about a 9-year-old girl in Mexico, known as Dafne, giving birth on January 27th. She was only 8 when she got pregnant.

Yes, you heard right … a 9-year-old had a baby. Your mind is probably swimming with questions right now.

Who’s the father?

According to Dafne, the father is a 17-year-old boy that she was “dating.” Yeah, like you can really “date” at that age. Understandably, police are searching for him and plan to press criminal charges for having a sexual relationship with a minor.

But police aren’t completely sure. “Due to her young age, we don’t know if she is being entirely truthful,” says Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office.

When the couple found out that she was pregnant (which wasn’t until the seventh month, by the way), the father supposedly suggested that Dafne move in with him and to raise the child together. She refused, and then the boy “decided to leave town.”

What a peach.

Can you actually get pregnant and give birth at that age?

Unusual, yes. Impossible … apparently not. We still assume that most girls don’t start menstruating until they’re around 12, but the the truth is that they’re getting younger and younger all the time. Plus, pregnancy can occur before a girl ever gets her first period, since the bleeding occurs at the end of the menstrual cycle after ovulation.

As far as delivery, doctors say that due to the girl’s small size and her body’s ability (or lack of) to deliver a baby at such a young age, they opted to perform a c-section. According to reports, mom and baby are now home and doing fine.

Where are this girl’s parents?

Dafne’s family lives in a very poor section of Mexico. Their hometown is Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, which is described as “a poverty-stricken neighborhood 25 miles south of Guadalajara.” She is one of 11 children.

“Her parents work all day and were not watching after her,” says Corona, “and therefore didn’t realize what was about to happen.”

Truthfully, I’m at a loss here. This is truly a sad story. This poor little girl had no idea what she was doing. And now she’s a parent.

We should all wish Dafne and her daughter the best. They need all the support they can get.

MIDWEST SNOW STORM – ONE OF THE WORST EVER

THE OF 2013 WAS ONE OF THE WORST, EVER

Hurricane force winds blew into Texas creating a “historic” and whiteout conditions in the Texas- panhandle.  Kansas also saw its share of snow as the storm blew north, and warnings are in effect.

The Weather Channel’s Mike Seidel reports.  The second major snowstorm in a week battered the nation’s midsection Tuesday, dropping up to a foot or more of heavy, wet snow that strained power lines and cut electricity to more than 100,000 Midwesteners.

LIGHTENING AND THUNDER DURING THE SNOWSTORM:

At least three deaths were blamed on the blizzard.  Gusting winds blew drifts more than 2 feet high and made driving treacherous for those who dared the morning commute.  About 105,000 homes and businesses in northeast Missouri, notheast Kansas and western Oklahoma were without power before noon as the snow weighed heavily on power lines and tree limbs.

Up to 10 inches had fallen in and around Kansas City, MO., before the snow tapered off before midday.  Mayor Sly James declared a state of emergency as the city dealt with its second major snow storm in less than a week.

   

Phillip Prince sat in his tractor-trailer, stuck on Interstate 40 near Groom, Texas, for hours. Nine hours and four minutes, to be precise. Prince and his co-driver were due in California at 1 p.m. Tuesday, where they were going to drop off 25,000 pounds of frozen pizza. But they stumbled on what the National Weather Service is calling “a crippling, historic blizzard”. “It was pretty nasty when we first got into it,” he said. “But then it turned into a whiteout.” Prince, who has been a long-haul driver for nine years, said in a submission to CNN’s Report that he’d never seen it so bad. The line of trucks on the westbound side of the freeway was five to six miles long.

A day later, three people were dead, and 21 states and 45 million people were under some form of winter weather watch, warning or advisory. The piling snow snapped tree branches, brought down power lines and made it tough for snowplows and utility crews to keep up.
